What to do before your hypnosis session
Did you know your hypnosis session starts before you even close your eyes?
It’s true. Your subconscious mind does its best work when nothing is competing for the space. And a little preparation clears the way.
So whether you’re seeing me in person or joining me on Zoom, here are my favorite tips for getting the most out of our time together.
1. Set a meaningful intention.
What do you want from this session?
Maybe it’s quieting the second-guessing, saying no without the guilt spiral, releasing the anxiety that keeps you up at night, or finally trusting yourself again.
A clear intention gives your subconscious mind a direction to move in.
2. Create your quiet space.
If you’re coming to my office in Wake Forest, I’ve got this part covered.
If you’re Zooming in, pick a spot where you won’t be disturbed. Your favorite armchair. A peaceful corner.
And make sure the kids and pets are settled somewhere else.
3. Handle the tech ahead of time.
For Zoom sessions, wear a good headset, check your internet connection, and make sure any batteries you need are juiced up.
A dropped signal is the last thing you want standing between you and your breakthrough.
4. Arrive exactly as you are.
Worried? Stressed? Mind racing?
Perfect. That’s what you’re coming in with, and that’s what we’ll work with.
Getting you relaxed is my job. And I’ve had 30 years of practice.
5. Skip the caffeine right before.
A jittery nervous system makes it harder to settle in. If you can, save the second cup of coffee for after our session.
6. Wear something comfortable.
You’ll be sitting or reclining for a while. Soft clothes, no tight waistbands, maybe a sweater in case you get cool as you relax.
Comfort helps your body let go faster.
7. Let go of doing it“right.”
There’s no test to pass in hypnosis. Some people see vivid images, others just feel deeply relaxed.
Whatever your mind does is exactly what it’s supposed to do.
8. Give yourself a soft landing.
If you can, leave a little buffer after our session instead of racing straight into a meeting or the school pickup line.
Even 15 quiet minutes lets the work settle in.
9. Stay curious.
Treat this like an adventure. Ask questions anytime.
Your participation only enriches the experience.
Is there anything else you’d like to know about preparing for a session?
