My daughter thought I'd lost my mind

My daughter thought I'd lost my mind

Are you crazy?

That was my daughter Devins response when I told her my brilliant plan.

For most of my life, I dreamed of living in North Carolina.

I grew up in South Florida. Yet ever since a high school camping trip to the mountains, I knew thats where I belonged.

Enormous trees. Changing seasons. Chipmunks munching on sunflowers.

But dreams have a way of fading while life happens, right?

A career. Husband. Kids. Dogs. Before I knew it, decades had passed by.

Then came the year both my girls were out on their own. And I realized ...This is my chance.

So I made a plan. A strategic one.

I knew moving to another state would be a dramatic change. So I decided to do it in increments.

First I
d move to North Florida. Then a couple of years later Id go from there to North Carolina.

It made a strange kind of sense at the time. I even spent a week in Jacksonville checking out neighborhoods and apartments.

I didnt love it, but I figured it would bring me closer to my goal.

Then I told Devin my plan. And she thought Id lost it.

Why in the world would you move to North Florida when you want to live in North Carolina?she asked.

In that moment it was like I suddenly woke up from a dream.

And I realized I had allowed my subconscious mind to lull me into conforming to my fears rather than going for what I wanted.

Now that I was awake I skipped Jacksonville. And I moved straight to North Carolina.

That was back in 2017. And every week I fall in love with this place all over again.

But heres what stayed with me long after the boxes were unpacked ...

My incremental plan didnt feel like fear at the time. It felt reasonable. Responsible, even.

Thats how old patterns operate. They dont announce themselves as fear. They dress themselves up as logic.

I see this with my clients all the time. The critical voice that comes in just as they decide to go for what they want.

Fortunately, hypnosis can delete that old voice and replace it with momentum instead.

So if youre standing at the edge of a big leap and you notice yourself shrinking the dream to make it feel safe, let’s talk.

Its time you got to enjoy a few cute little chipmunks of your own.
