When an old hurt gets triggered, today's reaction can feel much bigger than the moment calls for.

The fear that kept me up at night

October 21, 2026•1 min read

The first time a friend suggested I try hypnosis, I pictured a swinging pocket watch.

At the time, my daughter was 3 years old.

And I was convinced something terrible was going to happen to her.

She was perfectly safe, of course.

Still, I couldn’t shake the terrifying thoughts that kept me up at night.

What if she’s hit by a car? Or I lose her at Target?

I even dreamt I accidentally buried her under a pile of dirty laundry.

Which, let’s face it, probably said more about my housekeeping than anything else.

But I’d wake up sweating at least once a night.

And this was long before perimenopause.

So I read some self-help books.

I talked to counselors.

I did everything I knew to do at the time, but nothing touched it.

Finally, I booked that hypnosis session, sure it would be ridiculous.

Instead I found a calm office and a professional who explained exactly what would happen.

Not a pocket watch in sight.

Even more surprising?

Within a few sessions, the fear was gone.

I don't mean it was better. It was completely gone.

And I was finally able to sleep again.

I still hated doing the laundry. But I eventually got over that.

Sort of.

What I didn’t get over was my fascination with what hypnosis could accomplish.

Have you ever wondered how it could help you?

Let’s schedule a 30-minute conversation.

I'll bet you'll be delighted by what you discover.
